Who is Kort McCumber?
Kort McCumber is a multi-instrumentalist/singer/songwriter who plays a compelling blend of musical genres known, for lack of a more specific term, as Americana music. Born and raised in rural northern Florida, Kort's musical career started at an early age, largely because of the influence of his mother, a concert pianist with the Jacksonville Symphony. He has continued to explore and grow musically, increasing his skills and touring extensively while living in Colorado. "To me, music and life are synonomous. I play music to inspire others which, in turn, inspires me."

What genre of music does Kort play?
The genre of music that best describes the style Kort plays is Americana. Americana is a loose term that describes "classic American music" ranging in style from roots-based bluegrass to alternative country, blues, zydeco, and other native forms. Essentially, Americana consists of a wide variety of musical genres that includes the diverse range of cultural influences which we call American. However, Kort started out at an early age playing classical music on piano and cello. The sophistication and complexities of his classical beginnings continue to influence his music today.

What is a house concert?
A house concert is a scheduled, intimate performance featuring one or more spotlighted folk music artists. It is held at a person's house, usually in the living room, but occasionally held in the back yard or in a nearby private space. Usually the person throwing the house concert helps promote the performance and encourages their friends and community members who attend to donate a cover charge in order to pay the artist. Hosting a house concert is a great way for you to experience regional touring musicians in an intimate setting and to become extremely popular with all of your friends! Kort has performed at many house concerts. Contact us here to find out more.

What's a hootenanny?
(n) hoot’ n an e. 1) a shindig; 2) a hullabaloo; 3) a jamboree, wingding, ruckus or musical hoedown/throw-down; there is typically much music, dance and libations. From hillbilly vernacular, generally thought to be derived from the name of a famous old banjo-pickin’ moonshiner‘s wife, “Hootin’ Annie”, a whirling dervish of a dancer from the hills and hollers of Appalachia.

What will happen if I don't attend a hootenanny?
Failure to attend a hootenanny could lead to deep lyrical regret, severe acoustic remorse, irreparable sensory deprivation and that sinking feeling that you just missed out on something real. It is also entirely possible that you may sprout 2 left feet, lose all rhythmic ability and never dance again. Only known remedy is to get to the next Original Americana Hootenanny with McCumberland Gap as soon as humanly possible.
